Via dei Tribunali, Naples: the street of the historic center

If you’re planning to visit Naples, you cannot miss out on Via dei Tribunali, a street in the heart of the historic center of Naples. The street is one of the most famous and crowded in the city, where you can find all kinds of people and all kinds of shops.

The name of the street derives from the fact that, once upon a time, it was the route that went from the castle of the Angevins to the law courts, where trials were held. Nowadays, it is the street where you can find some of the best pizzerias in Naples, but also some little known art treasures.

One of the more interesting places to visit on Via dei Tribunali is the Chapel of San Severo. In this small chapel, you can find one of the most bizarre and mysterious works of art in the world: the Veiled Christ. The sculpture represents Jesus Christ, dead on the cross, draped in a veil. The veil is so perfectly worked that it seems to become transparent and reveal the realism of the body. The work was made by Giuseppe Sanmartino in 1753, and it still manages to fascinate visitors from all over the world.
