Once upon a time, in a city known as Arabia, there lived a poor man named Ali Baba. Ali Baba struggled to make ends meet, and his only means of income was to collect firewood from the forest to sell in the city. One day, while in the forest, he stumbled upon a group of forty thieves. He hid himself in a cave and overheard the thieves as they opened Sesame and gained access to their treasure.

Excited by the discovery of the thieves’ secret stash, Ali Baba returned home with a plan to take as much gold as he could find. To help him, he shared his discovery with his wife, who cleverly counted the thieves as they left the cave. With the exact number in mind, Ali Baba collected enough oil to fill enough oil jars, which he left strategically by the cave entrance when he knew the thieves would be gone.

The next day, when the thieves returned to the cave, they noticed that the seal had been broken and suspected that someone had found their hidden treasure. To investigate, the thieves decided to send one of their own disguised as a precious pearl merchant.

Ali Baba, being a curious man, went to the cave on the same day as the disguised thief. When the thief knocked on his door, Ali Baba welcomed him and invited him to stay for the night. The thief, unaware that Ali Baba knew of the treasure, decided to tell Ali Baba about his gems and pearls. After dinner, Ali Baba offered the thief his own bed, but the thief had an ulterior motive to kill Ali Baba in the middle of the night and assumed Ali Baba would sleep outdoors. However, Ali Baba had thought ahead and had his loyal servant, Morgiana, chop wood outside the bedroom door, preventing anyone from entering his room without waking him up.

The next morning, while the thief was still asleep, Morgiana noticed that his sword glinted in the sunlight. She realized that the “pearl merchant” was actually one of the thieves in disguise. She then proceeded to kill the thief by pouring boiling oil on him, a trick she learned from her own grandmother who was a professional slave and had encountered a similar situation before. When the other thieves realized they hadn’t heard back from their disguised comrade, they went to investigate and found him dead inside Ali Baba’s house.

Panic-stricken, they plotted their revenge and decided to send another one of their men to investigate Ali Baba’s house, but this time they chose a roasting oil merchant instead. However, Morgiana, being the observant and intelligent servant that she was, recognized the man to be one of the thieves in disguise. She acted similarly to the previous encounter and killed him by pouring boiling oil from their roasting pots atop of him while he was distracted by Ali Baba’s hospitality.

After successfully thwarting the thieves twice, Ali Baba was known amongst the robbers as a worthy adversary. They eventually found Ali Baba and tracked him down to his house, but with the help of his loyal servant Morgiana and a group of brave townsfolk, they were able to defeat the forty thieves and save their town’s treasure.

The story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves teaches us the lessons of bravery, wit, and loyalty. Ali Baba’s practical ideas and Morgiana’s quick thinking saved their lives and helped them triumph over the cunning robbers. It’s also a reminder that honesty and transparency pay off in the long run, and that, no matter how intimidating the opposition, there is always a way to outsmart them.
