Are you tired of casting your fishing line and baiting hooks manually? Perhaps it's time to step up your fishing game by building your very own bait cannon. A bait cannon allows you to launch your bait long distances, giving you a better chance at catching bigger fish. In this step-by-step guide, we'll walk you through the process of building your own bait cannon from scratch.
Gather the Materials
Before you start constructing your bait cannon, it's essential to gather all the necessary materials. Here is a list of what you'll need:
- 1 PVC pipe (6 feet long, 4 inches in diameter)
- 1 PVC cap (4 inches in diameter)
- 1 PVC reducer (4 inches to 2 inches in diameter)
- 1 PVC end cap (2 inches in diameter)
- 1 PVC coupling (2 inches in diameter)
- 1 PVC plug (2 inches in diameter)
- 1 PVC ball valve (2 inches in diameter)
- 1 container of PVC cement
- 1 can of PVC primer
- Drill with a hole saw attachment
- Hacksaw
- Sandpaper
- Tape measure
- Marker
Step 1: Mark and Cut the PVC
Using the tape measure and marker, measure and mark your PVC pipe at the following lengths: 3 feet, 2 feet, and 1 foot. These measurements will determine the different sections of your bait cannon.
Next, use the hacksaw to cut the PVC pipe at the marked points. Ensure smooth cuts by using sandpaper to remove any rough edges.
Step 2: Assemble the Body
Take the 4-inch PVC reducer and attach it to the 4-inch PVC cap. Apply PVC primer to both ends, followed by PVC cement. Connect the 3-foot section of the PVC pipe to the open end of the reducer. Allow the cement to dry completely before proceeding.
Step 3: Create the Air Chamber
Attach the 2-inch PVC coupling to the 2-inch PVC plug using PVC primer and cement. Once dry, attach the 2-inch PVC ball valve to the other end of the coupling. This will be your air chamber.
Step 4: Connect the Air Chamber
Measure and mark the center point on the 2-foot section of the 4-inch PVC pipe. Drill a hole at this mark using the drill and hole saw attachment. This hole should be just big enough to tightly fit the 2-inch PVC coupling.
Apply PVC primer and cement to the drilled hole and the end of the 2-foot PVC pipe, then attach the air chamber (2-inch PVC coupling) to the hole. Allow it to dry thoroughly.
Step 5: Finalize the Bait Cannon
Take the 1-foot section of remaining PVC pipe and attach it to the open end of the air chamber. Apply PVC primer and cement, and let it dry completely.
Finally, place the 2-inch PVC end cap on the other end of the air chamber, securing it in place with PVC primer and cement. Once everything is dry, your bait cannon is ready for action!
Remember to always exercise caution when using your bait cannon. Ensure proper safety measures are taken, such as wearing protective gear and abiding by any local fishing regulations.
With your newly constructed bait cannon, you can now launch your bait farther into the water, increasing your chances of landing that elusive monster fish. Good luck and happy fishing!
