Film
The Oscars are widely considered the biggest night in Hollywood, and the 92nd Academy Awards did not disappoint. Among the big winners were Parasite, which made history as the first non-English language film to win Best Picture, and Joaquin Phoenix, who picked up the Best Actor award for his haunting portrayal of the Joker in the eponymous film.
Meanwhile, at the Golden Globes, it was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that emerged as the big winner, picking up three awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Director for Quentin Tarantino, and Best Supporting Actor for Brad Pitt.
Television
The 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards were dominated by two shows: Watchmen and Schitt’s Creek. Watchmen, a dark and complex HBO series that explores issues of race and police brutality, won four awards, including Outstanding Limited Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for Regina King.
Schitt’s Creek, a Canadian comedy series about a wealthy family that loses everything and is forced to live in a small town they once bought as a joke, swept the comedy categories, winning seven awards in total, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series for Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara.

Literature
The Pulitzer Prizes, which recognize excellence in journalism, literature, and music, also announced their winners for 2020. Colson Whitehead won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for his book The Nickel Boys, a searing portrait of two boys at a brutal reform school in Jim Crow-era Florida.
The Pulitzer Prize for Poetry went to Jericho Brown for his collection The Tradition, while the prize for Drama was awarded to Michael R. Jackson for his musical A Strange Loop.
No matter the field, the winners of the 2020 awards have one thing in common: they represent the best and brightest talent in their respective fields. Whether it’s Parasite making history at the Oscars or Schitt’s Creek sweeping the Emmys, these winners serve as a reminder of the power of art and the importance of recognizing excellence.
