Mike Krzyzewski, lovingly referred to as Coach K, is an iconic figure in college basketball. With an illustrious career spanning over four decades, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in the history of the sport. As of September 2021, Mike Krzyzewski is 74 years old.
Born on February 13, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, Krzyzewski grew up in a Polish-American family. From an early age, he exhibited a passion for basketball. He attended Archbishop Weber High School, where he was the captain of the basketball team and led them to a city championship.
Following his stellar high school career, Krzyzewski took his talents to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He played point guard for the Army Black Knights, showcasing his leadership skills on the court. However, all good things must come to an end, and after 41 seasons as Duke’s head coach, Krzyzewski decided to retire after the 2021-2022 season. His retirement marks the end of an era for college basketball. A new chapter begins as Jon Scheyer, a former Duke player and Krzyzewski’s assistant, takes the reins as the head coach.
