Tools You’ll Need
- Safety goggles
- Flashlight
- Stethoscope or a cup
- Paperclip or a long, thin piece of metal
- Drill machine with a small drill bit
Method 1: Hearing the Combination
Before trying more advanced methods, let’s try the traditional approach. Put on your safety goggles and grab your flashlight.
1. Turn off all background noise and ensure the room is quiet.
2. If the safe has a dial, put the stethoscope on, or use the cup to press against the safe’s surface near the lock.
3. Gradually turn the dial clockwise, listening for any clicking or faint sounds.
4. When you hear a click, stop turning the dial and note the number you stopped at.
5. Repeat this process until you find three numbers that produce clicks.
6. Try different combinations of those three numbers until the safe unlocks.
Method 2: Manipulating the Lock
If Method 1 didn’t work or your safe doesn’t have a dial, you can try manipulating the lock directly.
1. Straighten a paperclip or use a long, thin piece of metal.
2. Insert the paperclip or metal piece into the keyhole and feel around for any resistance or pins.
3. Gently push or jiggle the paperclip or metal piece while turning it in different directions.
4. Listen for any movement or clicking sounds.
5. Repeat this process, applying different amounts of pressure and angles, until the lock disengages and the safe opens.
Method 3: Drilling the Lock
If all else fails, you can resort to drilling the lock. This method should only be used as a last resort, as it may damage the safe.
1. Choose a small drill bit that fits the lock’s keyhole.
2. Put on your safety goggles and carefully insert the drill bit into the keyhole.
3. Start drilling slowly and lightly, applying moderate pressure.
4. Keep drilling until the lock’s pins or tumblers are drilled out.
5. Once the pins or tumblers are drilled, the lock should disengage, and the safe can be opened.
