What do you need?
- Paperclip
- Pliers (optional)
Step 1: Bend the paperclip
Take the paperclip and straighten it out. If you have pliers, you can use them to make the bending process easier. Bend one end of the paperclip at a 90-degree angle, leaving the other end straight.
Step 2: Create a tension wrench
Using the straight end of the paperclip, fold a small portion of it into a 90-degree angle. This will serve as your tension wrench.
Step 3: Insert the tension wrench
Insert the tension wrench into the bottom of the padlock where the keyhole is located. Apply slight pressure in the direction you would use to turn the key.
Step 4: Insert the paperclip
Insert the bent end of the paperclip into the top of the keyhole. Push it in until you feel it catch on the lock pins.
Step 5: Apply pressure
While maintaining pressure with the tension wrench, gently push the paperclip against the lock pins. You should feel some resistance as the pins begin to move.
Step 6: Feel for the pins
As you apply pressure with the paperclip, use the tip to feel for the individual pins inside the lock. Try to find the pins that are binding or sticking, as these are the ones you need to manipulate.
Step 7: Lift the pins
With the pins identified, carefully lift each binding pin using the paperclip. Apply upward pressure until each pin reaches the correct height where they align with the inner cylinder of the lock.
Step 8: Rotate the lock
Once each pin is lifted to the correct height, apply a little more pressure with the tension wrench and rotate it in the same direction as you would with a key. Voila! Your lock should now be unlocked.
Remember, this method should only be used for educational or emergency purposes, and not to engage in any illegal activities. It’s always best to have the proper key or seek professional help if possible.
Now that you know how to unlock a padlock with a paperclip, you’ll be relieved to have a backup solution in case you misplace your keys. Just remember to always use this knowledge responsibly!
