Materials Needed:
- 1 empty plastic bottle
- Scissors
- Tape
- A small piece of cloth
- A gecko food item (optional)
Step 1: Prepare the Plastic Bottle
Start by making sure the plastic bottle is clean and empty. Remove any labels or stickers that may interfere with the trap. Rinse the bottle thoroughly before proceeding.
Once the bottle is clean, use the scissors to carefully cut off the top one-third portion of the bottle. Set aside this top portion as it will be used later.
Step 2: Create the Trap Entry
Take the remaining bottom two-thirds portion of the bottle and flip it upside down. Position it inside the top portion of the bottle (the one set aside in the previous step), making sure the open ends are aligned. Secure the two pieces together using tape.
Step 3: Add Gecko Bait (optional)
If you have a specific gecko food item available, place a small portion of it near the opening of the trap. This can act as bait to attract the geckos.
Step 4: Secure the Trap
Take the small piece of cloth and wet it slightly. Cover the top of the trap with the cloth, ensuring it is securely held in place. This helps the geckos to gain traction and climb into the trap.
Step 5: Position the Trap
Now that your gecko trap is ready, it’s time to place it strategically. Identify areas where geckos are frequently seen, such as near windows, doors, or areas with small cracks. Make sure to position the trap in a way that allows easy access for geckos.
Step 6: Check and Release
Regularly check the trap to see if any geckos have been caught. If a gecko is trapped, carefully remove the cloth covering and release the gecko back into the wild.
It’s important to never harm or kill the geckos as they serve as beneficial pest control in many regions.
By following these steps, you can build an effective gecko trap to address your gecko problem without causing harm. Give it a try and enjoy a gecko-free home!
Note: Please ensure you comply with local regulations and guidelines regarding the handling and release of wildlife.
