What Is the Seal?
The seal is a spiritual concept that is present throughout the Bible. In the Old Testament, it is often used to signify the ownership and protection of God. For example, in the book of Exodus, when the Israelites were about to be enslaved in Egypt, God promised to protect them and lead them out of bondage. He told Moses to sprinkle the blood of a lamb on the doorposts of the Israelites’ homes so that the angel of death would pass over them.
In the New Testament, the concept of the seal is expanded to include the sealing of the Holy Spirit. In the book of Ephesians, Paul writes, “In him, you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory” (1:13-14).
The seal of the Holy Spirit is a mark of ownership, protection, and authenticity. It is a sign that we belong to God, that we are protected by His power, and that we are authentic Christians. The Blood of Jesus is also associated with the seal of God in Revelation 7:3-8, where the 144,000 are sealed with the seal of God on their foreheads.
