Ingredients:
-1 pound of ground beef or pork
-2 cloves garlic, minced
-1 large onion, chopped
-1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes
-1 can (14 ounces) of tomato sauce
-1 tablespoon of dried basil
-1 tablespoon of dried oregano
-1 teaspoon of salt
-1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
-1 package (8 ounces) of lasagna noodles
-2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
-1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
-For the bechamel sauce:
-4 tablespoons of butter
-4 tablespoons of flour
-4 cups of milk
-1/2 teaspoon of salt
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or pork over medium heat until it is fully browned. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
5. While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions. Drain the noodles and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process.
6. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until the mixture turns a light brown color.
7. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the salt.
8. Layer the lasagna in a 9×13 inch baking dish, starting with a layer of noodles, then a layer of Bolognese sauce, a layer of bechamel sauce, and a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used up, ending with a layer of cheese on top.
9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the cheese is browned and bubbly.
10. Let the lasagna cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
