Do you need a fun and creative way to celebrate a special occasion with your loved ones? Why not try something different and bake a cake in the shape of a duck! Baking a cake from scratch may seem intimidating, but with this step-by-step recipe and some creativity, you will have the perfect centerpiece for your party.

For this recipe, you will need:

• 3 cups of all-purpose flour
• 1 tablespoon of baking powder
• ½ teaspoon of salt
• 1 ½ cups of sugar
• ½ cup of unsalted butter, softened
• 3 eggs
• 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
• 1 ¼ cups of whole milk
• Orange, yellow, and black food coloring
• Two 9-inch round cake pans
• Parchment paper
• Fondant
• A duck-shaped cake pan (optional)

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your two 9-inch round cake pans with butter or cooking spray and line them with parchment paper.

Step 2: In a medium mixing bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together. Set aside.

Step 3: In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Step 4: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar mixture alternately with the milk. Mix well until the batter is smooth.

Step 5: Divide the batter evenly into 3 separate bowls. Use the orange and yellow food coloring to dye two of the bowls of batter to make the beak and feet for the duck cake. Use the black food coloring to make the eyes. Leave the other bowl of batter as is for the duck’s body.

Step 6: Pour the duck’s body batter into one of the prepared round cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the center of the cake. Allow the cake to cool completely.

Step 7: Pour the orange and yellow batter into the other prepared round cake pan and bake for 20-25 minutes. Let that cake cool as well.

Step 8: Once all cakes have cooled, use the duck-shaped cake pan to cut out the duck’s head and neck. Alternatively, you can use a sharp knife to carve out the shape of the head and neck from the second round cake.

Step 9: Assemble the cake by placing the duck’s body on your serving plate. Cut off a small section of the round cake to make the feet. Cut two diamond shapes from the yellow and orange cakes to create the beak. Position the feet and beak on the body.

Step 10: Roll out a piece of white fondant and cover the duck head and neck with it. Use more fondant to create the eyes and pupils. You can add some details to the body, such as feathers or a fluffy belly, using the fondant too.

And there you have it – a cake in the shape of a duck! This baking project may take some time and effort, but it will surely impress your guests and make your celebration more special. Plus, baking is a fun activity that can be enjoyed with family and friends. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different shapes and colors to unleash your creativity and have more fun with your baking projects.
