Mena Massoud (born September 17, 1991) is a Canadian actor, known for his role as Aladdin in the 2019 live-action adaptation of Disney’s Aladdin. Despite his youth, Massoud has a respectable career in both television and film.

Massoud was born in Cairo, Egypt, to Coptic Christian parents. At a young age, he moved to Canada with his family and grew up in Markham, Ontario. Massoud attended St. Brother Andre Catholic High School, where he acted in several plays and musicals, including Footloose, Once Upon a Mattress, and Little Shop of Horrors.

After high school, Mena graduated from Ryerson University’s theatre program in Toronto. While at Ryerson, he co-founded the Evolving Artists theatre company, which produced an adaptation of Macbeth. Massoud made his cinematic debut in 2011, appearing in the thriller “What Happens Next”.
