Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Clarke in London for lunch at The Savoy. Over steaming mugs of coffee and plates of delicious food, we discussed his travels, his photography, and what inspires him to keep exploring.
For Tommy, traveling is about more than just taking pretty pictures. It’s about immersing himself in new cultures and meeting people from all walks of life. He believes that seeing the world is the key to staying creative and inspired.
During our lunch, Tommy shared some of his favorite travel stories. From the time he spent in Morocco, photographing the colorful markets and quiet alleyways of Marrakech, to the incredible wildlife he captured during a trip to South Africa.
As a photographer, Tommy is always on the lookout for new and interesting perspectives. He loves to climb to the top of buildings or mountains, just to capture a unique viewpoint that few others have seen. He says that these moments can be both exhilarating and challenging, but they always lead to some of his most memorable shots.
Of course, no discussion of travel photography would be complete without talking about the gear. Tommy is a firm believer in simplicity, and prefers to travel light. He usually carries just one or two cameras and a handful of lenses, as he likes to be quick and agile when capturing shots.
But gear is just one part of the equation. Tommy also emphasized the importance of preparation and planning. Whether he’s researching a new location or scouting potential shots, he always makes sure to do his homework before setting out.
As our lunch drew to a close, I asked Tommy what advice he would give to aspiring travel photographers. His answer was simple: just get out there and start shooting. He urged me to take risks, explore new places, and discover my own creative voice.
As I left The Savoy that afternoon, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of inspiration and excitement. The thought of exploring new destinations and capturing unique moments through my camera lens was thrilling.
Thanks to Tommy’s expertise and enthusiasm, I am more determined than ever to pursue my passion for travel photography. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even join him for lunch again, sharing stories of the incredible places we’ve seen and the amazing people we’ve met along the way.
