Step 1: Gather your tools
Before you start cutting your own bangs, it’s important to have the right tools. You will need a sharp pair of scissors, a comb, and clips to keep your hair in place. It’s also a good idea to have a mirror in front of you and a second mirror behind you to see the back of your hair.
Step 2: Wet your hair
Wetting your hair before you cut it can make it easier to manage and trim. You can either take a shower or wet your hair with a spray bottle. Once your hair is damp, comb it straight down in front of your face.
Step 3: Section your hair
Now it’s time to divide your hair into sections. Starting at the center of your forehead, use your comb to create a triangle-shaped section. The top point of the triangle should be at the center of your forehead, and the base should be at the top of your ears. Clip the rest of your hair back and away from your face.
Step 4: Cut the middle
Using your scissors, cut the middle of the triangle section first. Start with small cuts and work your way up. Remember, it’s always better to cut less than more, so take your time and check your progress by holding up the hair to see if both sides are even.
Step 5: Cut the sides
After you’ve trimmed the middle of your bangs, it’s time to move on to the sides. Take a small section of hair on one side of the triangle and hold it up straight. Cut it at an angle slightly longer than the middle section to create a soft, curved look. Repeat on the other side.
Step 6: Check your work
Once you’ve cut both sides, use your fingers to check the length of your bangs. If there are any longer pieces, snip them off. To ensure that your bangs are even, hold up the hair on the left and right sides to compare. Remember, it’s always better to cut less than more.
Step 7: Style your hair
After you’ve trimmed your bangs, you’ll want to style your hair to see the final result. Use a blow dryer and a brush to blow dry your bangs straight down. If you have curly hair, you may need to use a flat iron to smooth them out. Finish by applying a little bit of hair serum or oil to keep your bangs shiny and healthy-looking.
Trimming your own bangs can be intimidating, but with the right tools and techniques, you can achieve a salon-worthy cut. Remember to take your time and cut less than more, and always check your progress along the way. Who knows, you might even discover a hidden talent for hair !
