Getting Started with Messenger
To send messages with Messenger, you will need to have a Facebook account. If you already have one, simply download the Messenger app on your mobile device or access it from your desktop. Once you open the app or website, log in to your Facebook account to get started.
Sending a Message
Now that you are logged in to Messenger, let’s begin sending messages:
- Step 1: Look for the message icon at the top right corner of the screen. It resembles a speech bubble with a lightning bolt inside. Click on it to go to your message inbox.
- Step 2: Click on the “New Message” button. It is located on the top right corner of the message inbox screen and has a pencil icon.
- Step 3: Start typing the name of the person you want to message. Messenger will automatically suggest contacts based on your Facebook friends’ list or previous conversations.
- Step 4: Once you see the person you want to message, click on their name to start a conversation.
- Step 5: Type your message in the text box at the bottom of the conversation window and hit enter to send it. Alternatively, you can click on the paper airplane icon next to the text box.
Adding Media to Your Messages
Messenger allows you to enhance your messages with various media types:
- Photos: Click on the camera icon next to the text box to select and send a photo from your device.
- Emojis: Express yourself with a wide range of emojis by clicking on the smiley face icon next to the text box.
- Stickers: Add fun and colorful stickers to your messages by clicking on the sticker icon next to the smiley face icon. Select a sticker pack and choose the desired sticker.
- Files: Need to share a document or other file? Click on the file icon next to the text box and select the file you want to send.
Managing Conversations
Messenger provides several useful features to manage your conversations:
- Archiving Conversations: To declutter your message inbox, you can archive conversations by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner of the conversation window and selecting “Archive.”
- Muting Conversations: If you want to temporarily stop receiving notifications from a specific conversation, click on the info (i) icon at the top right corner of the conversation window. From there, select “Mute” to silence the notifications.
- Deleting Conversations: If you want to permanently remove a conversation, click on the gear icon in the top right corner of the conversation window and select “Delete.” Be cautious as this action cannot be undone.
