What You’ll Need
- A new iPhone battery
- A small Phillips screwdriver
- A suction cup
- A plastic pry tool
- Tweezers
- An adhesive strip
Step 1: Power Down Your iPhone
The first thing you need to do is power down your iPhone. Press and hold the power button until “slide to power off” appears on the screen. Slide to power off and wait for your device to completely shut down before proceeding to the next step.
Step 2: Remove the Two Bottom Screws
Take your small Phillips screwdriver and remove the two screws located on either side of the Lightning connector at the bottom of your iPhone.
Step 3: Use a Suction Cup to Lift the Display
Place your suction cup above the Home button and gently press it down. Hold the sides of the device and gently lift the display assembly. Make sure you don’t lift it too far, as the display is still connected to the rest of the iPhone by cables.
Step 4: Disconnect the Display Assembly
Using the plastic pry tool, carefully disconnect the cables that connect the display assembly to the iPhone’s logic board. Start with the cable near the Home button, then disconnect the cable near the top of the display assembly. Once the cables are disconnected, you can remove the display assembly completely and set it aside.
Step 5: Remove the Battery Connector Shield
Locate the battery connector shield, which is a metal plate placed over the battery connector. Remove the screws securing the shield using your Phillips screwdriver, then carefully lift the shield and set it aside.
Step 6: Disconnect the Battery
Use the plastic pry tool to disconnect the battery connector from the logic board. Gently lift the connector to detach it. Make sure you don’t damage the connector or the logic board while doing this.
Step 7: Replace the Battery
Take your new iPhone battery and place it in the same position as the old battery. Make sure the connector aligns with the one on the logic board. Press down firmly to secure the connection.
Step 8: Reconnect the Battery
Reconnect the battery connector to the logic board. Press it down gently but firmly until it clicks into place. Once the battery is securely connected, you can replace the battery connector shield and the screws you removed earlier.
Step 9: Reconnect the Display Assembly
Carefully reattach the display assembly cables to the iPhone’s logic board. Start with the cable near the top and then connect the cable near the Home button. Once the cables are connected, gently lower the display assembly and make sure it sits flush with the iPhone’s frame.
Step 10: Replace the Bottom Screws
Take the two screws you removed in step 2 and screw them back into place on either side of the Lightning connector at the bottom of your iPhone.
Step 11: Power On Your iPhone
Press and hold the power button until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Your iPhone should now power on with the new battery installed.
By following these simple steps, you can easily replace your iPhone battery at home. Remember to be patient and gentle throughout the process to avoid any damage to your device.
