What You Will Need
- Razor blade scraper
- Denatured alcohol
- Cloth or sponge
- Plastic scraper
- Acetone or nail polish remover (non-oily)
- Vinegar
- Warm water
Step 1: Scrape off the Excess Silicone
Using a razor blade scraper, carefully scrape off as much of the dried silicone as possible. Be gentle to avoid scratching the glass surface. If any residue remains, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Apply Denatured Alcohol
To remove the remaining silicone residue, apply denatured alcohol to a cloth or sponge. Gently scrub the affected area in a circular motion. The alcohol will help soften the silicone, making it easier to remove.
Step 3: Use a Plastic Scraper
If the silicone is stubborn and refuses to come off, use a plastic scraper to scrape it away. Again, be careful not to scratch the glass, and always apply gentle pressure.
Step 4: Apply Acetone or Nail Polish Remover
If denatured alcohol doesn’t seem to do the trick, try using acetone or non-oily nail polish remover. Apply a small amount to a clean cloth or sponge and gently rub the affected area. Rinse with warm water afterwards.
Step 5: Remove Residue with Vinegar
If there is still leftover residue, mix equal parts of vinegar and warm water in a container. Soak a cloth or sponge in the mixture and dab it onto the affected area. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe away the residue with the cloth or sponge.
Step 6: Clean the Glass
Once all the silicone residue has been removed, clean the glass thoroughly with a mixture of warm water and mild dish soap. Rinse with clean water and dry using a lint-free cloth or towel.
By following these steps and using the appropriate tools and substances, you can easily remove dried silicone from glass surfaces. Remember to always exercise caution to avoid damage and, if needed, seek professional help.
