Gather the Necessary Tools
Before we dive into the tutorial, let’s gather the tools you’ll need:
- A tension wrench
- A lock pick set
- A narrow and sturdy piece of metal, such as a paperclip or bobby pin
Step 1: Insert the Tension Wrench
The first step is to insert the tension wrench into the bottom of the keyhole. Apply slight pressure in the direction that the lock would naturally turn. This tension will help us manipulate the lock pins.
Step 2: Choose the Right Lock Pick
Now, select an appropriate lock pick from your set. We recommend starting with a hook-shaped pick, as it offers better control. Insert the pick into the top of the keyhole, above the tension wrench.
Step 3: Manipulate the Lock Pins
Gently push the lock pins upward with the lock pick. Feel for the pins binding or reaching their “set” position. Maintain consistent tension with the wrench while systematically manipulating each pin.
Step 4: Feel for a Click
As you manipulate each pin, listen and feel for a distinctive click. This click indicates that the pin has reached its set position and is no longer obstructing the lock’s rotation.
Step 5: Repeat Until the Lock Opens
Continue repeating Steps 3 and 4 for each pin until you feel all pins release and the lock cylinder starts to turn. With patience and practice, you’ll become more proficient at identifying the pins’ set positions.
