What You’ll Need
- Girmi Yogurt Maker
- 1 liter of milk (any type)
- Yogurt starter culture or 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt with live active cultures
- Optional: sweeteners, flavors, or fruit for added taste
Step 1: Prepare the Milk
Start by pouring the milk into a saucepan and heating it over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent a skin from forming. Heat the milk until it reaches 180°F (82°C) or until small bubbles start to form around the edges.
Step 2: Cool the Milk
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the milk cool down to approximately 115°F (46°C). You can speed up the process by placing the saucepan in a cold water bath.
Step 3: Add the Starter Culture or Yogurt
Add the yogurt starter culture (as per the manufacturer’s instructions) or 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt with live active cultures to the cooled milk. Stir gently until the culture is fully incorporated.
Step 4: Fill the Yogurt Jars
Divide the milk mixture equally into the glass jars provided with the Girmi Yogurt Maker. Make sure to leave a little space at the top as the yogurt will expand during fermentation.
Step 5: Start the Fermentation Process
Place the filled jars into the yogurt maker and cover them with the lid. Turn on the machine and set the fermentation time according to your preference. For a classic yogurt taste, 6-8 hours should be sufficient.
Step 6: Refrigeration
After the desired fermentation time, remove the jars from the yogurt maker and refrigerate them for at least 4 hours. This allows the yogurt to set and develop a creamy texture.
Step 7: Enjoy Your Homemade Yogurt
Your homemade yogurt is now ready to be enjoyed! Serve it plain or add your favorite sweeteners, flavors, or fruits for a personalized touch. Don’t forget to keep a few tablespoons as a starter culture for your next batch of yogurt!
