To start, gather a square sheet of origami paper. If you don’t have origami paper, you can cut a regular piece of paper into a square shape. Ensure that the paper is symmetrical and foldable.
Step 1: Begin by placing the square paper diagonally on a flat surface, with one corner pointing towards you. Make sure the colored side is facing up.
Step 2: Fold the paper in half diagonally, bringing the bottom right corner to meet the top left corner. Press down firmly on the folded line to create a crease, then unfold.
Step 3: Now, fold the paper in half diagonally again, but this time bringing the bottom left corner to meet the top right corner. Create another crease and unfold.
Step 4: Rotate the paper so that one of the folded corners is pointing towards you. Fold the right corner of the paper towards the center, lining it up with the middle crease. Repeat the same step for the left corner.
Step 5: Flip the paper over and fold the bottom corner towards the top corner, aligning it with the previously made crease. Once both sides are folded, unfold them.
Step 6: With the colored side still facing down, fold the upper half of the paper towards you, using the crease and triangle shape formed in the previous step as a guide. This will create a small triangle at the bottom of the paper.
Step 7: Take the right corner of the top layer and fold it towards the center, aligning it with the middle crease. Repeat the same step for the left corner.
Step 8: Fold the bottom edge of the paper up, aligning it with the top edge. Press firmly to create a crease, then unfold.
Step 9: Carefully open up the bottom of the paper by squeezing the sides together. As you do this, the paper should start to form a diamond shape.
Step 10: Hold the diamond-shaped paper with the open end facing upwards. Fold the top layer of the diamond down, along the crease line created in the previous step. This will form the neck of the swan.
Step 11: Flip the paper over and fold the bottom corners upwards diagonally, creating the wings of the swan. Adjust the wings to your desired shape.
Step 12: Finally, fold the narrow tip of the diamond downwards, creating the head of the swan.
Congratulations! You have successfully created a swan-shaped origami. Adjust the wings, neck, and overall shape of the swan as desired. You can use a pencil or your fingers to give the swan a 3D appearance by gently curving the wings and neck.
Origami is not only a creative and enjoyable hobby, it also helps improve focus, concentration, and fine motor skills. Practice makes perfect, so don’t get discouraged if your first attempt doesn’t turn out exactly as expected.
