Do you have a sweet tooth? Are you a fan of delicious Italian treats? If you answered “yes” to both questions, then you’re in for a treat! Today, we’ll show you how to make soft and chewy torrone, a traditional Italian nougat that will satisfy your cravings. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of honey
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 3 tablespoons of corn syrup
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 2 cups of toasted almonds, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt

Instructions:

1. In a large saucepan, combine the honey, sugar, and corn syrup. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved completely.

2. Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the saucepan. Increase the heat to medium-high and allow the mixture to cook without stirring until the temperature reaches 260°F (127°C), also known as the hard-ball stage.

3. While the mixture is cooking, beat the egg whites in a separate bowl until stiff peaks form.

4. Slowly pour the hot syrup into the beaten egg whites, whisking constantly. Be careful as the syrup is extremely hot. Continue whisking until the mixture becomes thick and glossy.

5. Add the chopped almonds, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt to the mixture. Stir everything together until well-combined.

6. Line a square baking dish with parchment paper and pour the torrone mixture into the dish. Smooth the surface with a spatula and let it cool for at least 4 hours or until firm.

7. Once the torrone has cooled and hardened, remove it from the baking dish and cut it into desired shapes and sizes.

8. Store the torrone in an airtight container or wrap individual pieces in wax paper to keep them fresh and chewy.

And there you have it! Your soft and chewy torrone is ready to be enjoyed. Whether you share it with friends and family or keep it all to yourself, this delightful Italian treat is sure to satisfy your sweet cravings. Buon appetito!
