Step 1: Measure and Cut
Start by measuring and cutting your fabric, lining fabric, and interfacing to the desired size and shape of your clutch. Make sure to leave a little extra for seam allowances. Remember, the size of your clutch is completely up to you, so get creative!
Step 2: Sew the Exterior
Take the fabric for the exterior of your clutch and fold it in half with the right sides facing each other. Sew along the sides, leaving the top open. Once sewn, turn the fabric right side out and press it with an iron to create crisp edges.
Step 3: Attach the Interfacing
Take your interfacing and place it inside the clutch, adhering it to the fabric with an iron. This will give your clutch structure and stability.
Step 4: Prepare the Lining
Repeat Step 2 with your lining fabric, sewing it together and pressing the seams. Make sure to leave a small gap in the bottom for turning it right side out later.
Step 5: Add the Zipper
Place the zipper face down on the top edge of the exterior fabric, aligning it evenly. Secure it in place with pins and sew along the edges. Repeat this step with the lining, sewing the other side of the zipper onto it.
Step 6: Assemble the Clutch
Open the zipper halfway and place the exterior and lining fabrics right sides together. Sew along the edges, leaving a small opening to turn it right side out. Once done, carefully turn the clutch right side out through the opening.
Step 7: Finishing Touches
Sew the opening closed, and press the clutch with an iron to give it a polished look. You can also add decorative elements like beads, sequins or embroidery to personalize your creation.
