Materials You’ll Need:
- Felt fabric in various colors
- Scissors
- Needle and thread
- Measuring tape
- Cardstock or sturdy cardboard
- Hot glue gun
- Headband or elastic
Step 1: Creating the Mushroom Cap
Start by measuring your head circumference using the measuring tape. This will help you determine the size of your mushroom cap.
Next, using the cardstock or sturdy cardboard, create a circle with a diameter slightly larger than your head circumference. This will serve as the template for your mushroom cap.
Place the template on the felt fabric and cut out two identical circles. These will be the top and bottom of your mushroom cap.
Step 2: Assembling the Mushroom Cap
Take one of the felt circles and fold it in half. Using a needle and thread, sew the straight edge of the folded felt together to create a dome shape.
Repeat the same process with the other felt circle.
Once both felt circles are sewn into dome shapes, place one on top of the other, aligning the edges. Use the needle and thread to sew them together, leaving a small opening on the side to insert stuffing.
Stuff the mushroom cap with polyester fiberfill or any other soft material to give it a plump and mushroom-like appearance.
After stuffing, sew up the opening to secure the stuffing in place.
Step 3: Adding the Mushroom Stem
To create the stem of the mushroom, cut a long strip of felt fabric in a contrasting color.
Wrap the strip tightly around a cylindrical object, such as a kitchen roll tube, to shape it into a tube or stem-like structure.
Secure the ends of the strip using hot glue or hand stitching.
Attach the stem to the center of the mushroom cap using hot glue, making sure it is centered and firmly secured.
Step 4: Attaching a Headband
If you prefer wearing your mushroom hat with a headband, measure the headband against the circumference of your mushroom cap.
Once measured, attach the headband to the bottom of the mushroom cap using a hot glue gun or by sewing it on securely.
If you prefer an elastic strap, measure the elastic to fit comfortably under your chin or around your head. Attach it to the bottom of the mushroom cap using the same method as the headband.
Step 5: Personalize and Decorate
Now that you have the basic mushroom-shaped hat, it’s time to get creative and personalize it.
Consider adding decorative elements such as felt flowers, butterfly cutouts, or even miniature mushroom figurines to make your hat truly unique.
Secure these embellishments to the mushroom cap using hot glue or by sewing them on.
And there you have it! Your very own mushroom-shaped hat is ready to be worn on your next adventure. Have fun flaunting your creativity and enjoy the attention you’ll surely receive!
