Materials Needed
- 1 yard of fabric
- Scissors
- Pins
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Needle and thread
Step 1: Measure and Cut the Fabric
Begin by measuring the circumference of your head, where you want the headband to sit. Add an extra inch to this measurement for seam allowance. Using these measurements, cut a strip of fabric that is 5 inches wide and the length of your head circumference plus 1 inch.
Step 2: Fold and Pin the Fabric
Fold the fabric strip in half lengthwise, with the right sides facing each other, and pin along the open edge. This will create a long tube.
Step 3: Sew the Tube
Starting from one end, sew along the pinned edge of the fabric using a ½ inch seam allowance. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can also hand sew this seam using a simple running stitch.
Step 4: Turn the Tube Inside Out
Carefully turn the tube of fabric inside out, so that the right side is now facing outwards. Use a pencil or a chopstick to help push out the corners for a neater finish.
Step 5: Cross and Pin the Ends
Cross one end of the tube over the other to form an X shape. Pin the ends together securely, making sure that the right side of the fabric is facing outwards.
Step 6: Sew the Ends
Using a needle and thread, sew the pinned ends of the tube together, creating a small invisible seam. Take your time to ensure the stitch is secure and well-concealed.
Step 7: Trim Excess Fabric
Trim any excess fabric and threads to give your crossed headband a clean and polished look.
