Prerequisites
Before you begin the installation process, ensure that you have the following prerequisites:
- A remote server with a control panel (such as cPanel or Plesk) installed
- An FTP client (such as FileZilla) or access to the server’s file manager
- Joomla installation package downloaded from the official Joomla website
Step 1: Prepare Your Environment
First, log in to your remote server’s control panel. Locate the “File Manager” or “FTP Manager” section. Create a directory within your web root folder where you want to install Joomla. You can name it anything you prefer, for example, “myjoomlasite”.
Step 2: Upload the Joomla Files
Next, using your FTP client or file manager, upload the Joomla installation package to the directory you created in the previous step. Ensure that all files and folders from the Joomla installation package are placed directly in this directory.
Step 3: Create a Database
In your control panel, navigate to the “Databases” section and create a new MySQL database. You will also need to create a database user and assign it to the newly created database. Make sure to note down the database name, username, and password as you will need them in the next step.
Step 4: Run the Installation Wizard
Open your preferred web browser and enter the URL of your Joomla installation directory (e.g., www.mydomain.com/myjoomlasite). You will be greeted with the Joomla installation wizard. Select your preferred language and click on the “Next” button.
In the next step, the installer will perform a system check to ensure your server meets the necessary requirements. Fix any issues that may arise before proceeding to the next step.
In the next screen, you will need to enter your database details. Fill in the fields with the database name, username, password, and the database host (usually “localhost” unless otherwise specified by your hosting provider). Click on the “Next” button once you’ve entered the details correctly.
Now, enter the site name, description, administrator username, password, and email address. Make sure to choose a strong password for the administrator account. Click on “Next” when you are done.
The installation wizard will now configure your Joomla installation. This might take a moment, so please be patient.
Step 5: Complete the Installation
Once the configuration is complete, you will see a message indicating that the installation was successful. You can now click on the “Remove installation folder” button to remove the installation directory and secure your Joomla installation.
Finally, click on the “Administrator” button to access the Joomla administration area. Here, you can start customizing your Joomla website, installing extensions, and creating content.
