Step 1: Choose the right paper
The first step in making an origami star is to choose the right paper. You can use any type of paper, but it’s best to use thin, lightweight paper, such as origami paper or tissue paper. The paper should be square, as this will make it easier to fold.
Step 2: Fold the paper in half diagonally
Fold the paper in half diagonally, from one corner to the opposite corner. Press down firmly on the crease to make it as sharp as possible. Then, unfold the paper and repeat on the other diagonal.
Step 3: Fold the paper in half vertically and horizontally
Fold the paper in half vertically, from one side to the opposite side. Then, fold it in half horizontally, from the other side to the opposite side. Unfold the paper and you should have creases running across the paper in both directions.
Step 4: Fold the paper into a triangle
Pick up the paper and fold it in half diagonally, but this time bring the two opposite corners together. This should cause the paper to form a triangle. Press down firmly on the crease to make it as sharp as possible.
Step 5: Fold the corners
With the triangle pointing upwards, fold the two corners down towards the bottom point of the triangle. These two corners will become the points of the star. Press down firmly on the creases to make them sharp.
Step 6: Fold the top point
Fold the top point of the triangle down towards the bottom of the triangle, but only about half way. You don’t want to fold it all the way down to the bottom, as this will affect the final shape of the star.
Step 7: Fold the bottom point
Fold the bottom of the triangle up towards the top, but again only about half way. You should end up with a sort of zig-zag shape, with the two folded points sticking out at the sides.
Step 8: Fold the sides
Pick up the paper and fold the two sides inwards towards the center of the paper. This will create two more points of the star.
Step 9: Fold the points
Fold the two points at the top of the paper down towards the center. These two points will become the final points of the star.
Step 10: Finish the star
Finally, make sure all the creases are sharp, and carefully shape the star into its final shape. You can use your finger or a small tool to help shape the points and make them more defined.
And there you have it, a beautiful origami star that you can use as decoration or give as a gift. Keep practicing and experimenting with different papers to create stars in different shapes, sizes, and colors. The possibilities are endless with origami.
