What You’ll Need
- A broken highlighter
- A small container or bowl
- Isopropyl alcohol
- Dropper or small syringe
- A piece of tissue or paper towel
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
Before you begin the repair process, make sure you have all the necessary materials on hand. Having everything ready will help you work more efficiently and complete the repair without any interruptions.
Step 2: Disassemble the Highlighter
Take a look at your broken highlighter and identify where the break has occurred. Most highlighters consist of a cap, barrel, and felt tip. Carefully pull the felt tip out of the barrel. In some cases, you may need to remove the cap as well to access the inside of the highlighter.
Step 3: Place the Highlighter in a Container
Fill a small container or bowl with enough isopropyl alcohol to cover the felt tip of the highlighter. Isopropyl alcohol is a great solvent that can help dissolve any dried-up ink or clogs inside the highlighter.
Step 4: Soak the Felt Tip in Isopropyl Alcohol
Gently drop the felt tip into the container with the isopropyl alcohol. Make sure the entire felt tip is submerged in the liquid. Let it soak for about 10-15 minutes to allow the alcohol to break down any blockages and restore the ink flow.
Step 5: Remove the Felt Tip and Clean
After soaking, carefully remove the felt tip from the isopropyl alcohol. Use a dropper or a small syringe to squeeze out any excess alcohol from the felt tip.
Step 6: Wipe and Reassemble
Take a piece of tissue or paper towel and gently wipe the felt tip to remove any remaining traces of alcohol. Once the felt tip is completely dry, carefully slide it back into the barrel of the highlighter. If necessary, reattach the cap as well.
Step 7: Test and Enjoy
Your repaired highlighter is now ready to be tested. Scribble on a piece of scrap paper to ensure the ink flows smoothly. If everything looks good, you can start using your highlighter again and continue adding color to your notes.
By following these simple steps, you can fix a broken highlighter without much hassle. Remember to handle the repair process with care to avoid any further damage to the highlighter. Happy highlighting!
