Step 1: Check your device
Before we dive into the steps, make sure your Windows 7 computer has a built-in WiFi adapter or a compatible external WiFi adapter connected to it. Without a WiFi adapter, you won’t be able to enable WiFi on your device.
Step 2: Open the Network and Sharing Center
Begin by clicking on the network icon in your system tray, located at the bottom right corner of your screen. This icon looks like a series of vertical bars. A network menu will appear.
In the network menu, click on the “Open Network and Sharing Center” option. This will open a new window with various network-related options and settings.
Step 3: Choose your network
In the Network and Sharing Center window, locate and click on the “Change adapter settings” link on the left-hand side. This will direct you to a window displaying all the available network connections on your computer.
Look for the “Wireless Network Connection” option on the list of connections. If you see it, it means your computer has a WiFi adapter installed or connected.
Step 4: Enable WiFi
Right-click on the “Wireless Network Connection” option and select “Enable” from the context menu that appears. This will enable WiFi on your Windows 7 computer.
Step 5: Connect to a WiFi network
With WiFi enabled, now it’s time to connect to a network. Click on the network icon in the system tray again, and this time, choose the WiFi network you want to connect to from the list of available networks. Click on its name and then click the “Connect” button.
If the network is secured, you will be prompted to enter the password. Simply type in your network’s password and click “Connect” to establish a connection.
Step 6: Confirm the connection
Once connected, you will notice a checkmark next to the WiFi network’s name in the available networks list. Additionally, the network icon in the system tray will now indicate that you are connected to a WiFi network.
Open your preferred web browser and visit any website to confirm that your WiFi connection is working properly.
