What supplies do you need?
Before you begin disinfecting your door handles, gather the following supplies:
- Disposable gloves
- Disposable disinfectant wipes or a disinfectant spray
- Paper towels or clean cloth
Step 1: Put on disposable gloves
Wearing disposable gloves is essential to protect yourself from any potential germs or chemicals present on the door handles.
Step 2: Prepare the disinfectant solution
If you are using disposable disinfectant wipes, proceed to step 3. If you are using a disinfectant spray, dilute it according to the manufacturer’s instructions in a spray bottle.
Step 3: Wipe the door handle
Take a disinfectant wipe and start by thoroughly wiping the entire surface of the door handle. Pay special attention to areas that are frequently touched, such as the handle itself and any buttons or levers. Ensure the handle remains wet with the disinfectant for the specified contact time mentioned on the product packaging.
Step 4: Let it dry
Allow the disinfectant to air dry on its own. This ensures proper contact time, allowing it to effectively kill any bacteria or viruses present on the door handle.
Step 5: Dispose of gloves and wipes
Carefully remove your gloves, turning them inside out as you do to prevent any contact with the contaminated surface. Dispose of the gloves and used wipes in a trash bag immediately after use, and tie it securely for proper disposal.
Step 6: Wash your hands
Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to ensure proper hand hygiene.
By following these steps regularly, you can help reduce the spread of germs and keep your living spaces clean and safe. Remember to disinfect door handles in high-traffic areas more often, especially during flu seasons or times of increased illness.
Stay safe and keep your environment healthy!
