With the extensive use of smartphones in our daily lives, it has become increasingly important to address the potential negative effects of prolonged screen time. One aspect that has gained significant attention is the harmful blue light emitted by these devices. Blue light can disrupt our sleep patterns, strain our eyes, and cause overall discomfort. Fortunately, Apple has incorporated a feature called Night Shift in their iOS operating system, allowing iPhone users to reduce the amount of blue light emitted by the screen. In this article, we will guide you through the steps to disable blue light on your iPhone.
Step 1: Open the Settings App
To begin, locate and open the Settings app on your iPhone. The icon resembles a gear and can usually be found on the home screen or within a folder labeled “Utilities.”
Step 2: Select Display & Brightness
Within the Settings app, scroll down and tap on the Display & Brightness option. This section allows you to adjust various display settings, including the activation of Night Shift.
Step 3: Enable Night Shift
Under the Display & Brightness section, you will find the Night Shift feature. Tap on it to access the settings. To enable Night Shift, toggle the switch next to “Scheduled” or “Manually Enabled” to the ON position. This will activate the Night Shift mode on your iPhone.
Step 4: Schedule Night Shift (Optional)
If you chose the “Scheduled” option in the previous step, you can further customize when Night Shift is automatically activated. Tap on the “From / To” time range and set the desired start and end time for Night Shift to be active. This is particularly useful if you want the feature to automatically adjust according to your normal sleep cycle.
Step 5: Adjust Color Temperature
Below the Night Shift switch, you will find a slider labeled “Color Temperature.” This slider allows you to manually adjust the intensity of the blue light reduction. By moving the slider towards the left, the screen temperature will become warmer, resulting in a significant reduction in blue light emission.
Step 6: Use Control Center Shortcut
With Night Shift activated, you can also quickly toggle it on or off from the Control Center. To access the Control Center, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen (on iPhone X or newer models) or swipe up from the bottom of the screen (on iPhone SE or older models). Within the Control Center, you will see an icon resembling a sun and moon. Tapping on this icon will enable or disable Night Shift momentarily.
Step 7: Customize Night Shift in Control Center
If you frequently use the Control Center to adjust settings, you can add a Night Shift shortcut for even quicker access. To customize the Control Center, go to the Settings app, tap on Control Center, then select Customize Controls. In the list of available controls, locate Night Shift and tap the green “+” button next to it. This will add Night Shift as one of the options in the Control Center.
By disabling blue light on your iPhone using Night Shift, you can significantly reduce eye strain and potential sleep disturbances caused by excessive screen time. Remember to take regular breaks and practice appropriate screen time management to ensure better overall health.
