What You’ll Need
- Sisal rope (approximately 50 ft)
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
- Decorative ribbon (optional)
Step 1: Prepare Your Broom
Before you begin, ensure that your broom is clean and free from any dust or dirt. This will help the sisal rope adhere properly to the broom.
If your broom has an old handle grip or any loose parts, remove or fix them beforehand to ensure a smooth application of the sisal rope.
Step 2: Start Wrapping the Sisal Rope
Begin by applying a small dab of hot glue near the top of the broom handle. This will serve as the starting point for wrapping the sisal rope. Be careful not to burn yourself with the hot glue.
Hold the end of the sisal rope against the glue and wait for it to cool down, securing the rope in place. Ensure that the end of the sisal rope is tightly attached to avoid unraveling.
Now, start tightly wrapping the sisal rope around the broom handle, gradually working your way down towards the bristles. Apply a small amount of hot glue every few inches to ensure the rope stays in place.
Continue wrapping until you reach the end of the handle. Cut the sisal rope, leaving a small excess that can be concealed later.
Step 3: Conceal the Rope Ends
To hide the ends of the sisal rope, apply a generous amount of hot glue near the end of the handle. Quickly tuck the excess rope into the glue, securing it in place.
If desired, you can further enhance the appearance by wrapping a decorative ribbon over the glue, creating a neat and finished look. Secure the ribbon with hot glue as well.
Step 4: Finishing Touches
Inspect your decorated broom and make any necessary adjustments. Ensure that the sisal rope is evenly wrapped, and the ends are firmly secured.
Once you are satisfied with the wrap, allow the glue to cool and dry completely before using your decorated broom.
With just a few supplies and some creativity, you can easily transform an ordinary broom into a decorative piece using sisal rope. This DIY project not only adds a charming touch to your broom but also makes it easier to identify in a crowded cleaning closet.
