Materials you will need:
- A glass jar or container
- String
- A pipe cleaner
- Hot water
- Borax
- A pencil or popsicle stick
- Food coloring (optional)
Step 1: Shape your crystal
Take the pipe cleaner and shape it into the desired form for your crystal. It could be a heart, a star, or any other shape you like. Make sure the shape fits comfortably inside the glass jar, leaving some space around it.
Step 2: Prepare the crystal-growing solution
Boil a kettle of water and fill the glass jar halfway with hot water. Add borax powder to the water and stir until it dissolves completely. You can add food coloring at this stage if you want your crystal to have a specific color.
Step 3: Hang the pipe cleaner in the jar
Tie one end of the string to the pipe cleaner and the other end to the pencil or popsicle stick. Make sure the pipe cleaner is fully immersed in the solution but doesn’t touch the sides or bottom of the jar. Rest the pencil or stick on top of the jar to suspend the pipe cleaner in the solution.
Step 4: Let the crystal grow
Place the jar in a safe place where it won’t be disturbed. Allow the crystal to grow undisturbed for at least 24 hours. The longer you leave it, the larger your crystal will grow.
Step 5: Harvest your crystal
Once you are satisfied with the size of your crystal, carefully remove it from the jar. You may need to break the thin layer of crystals that may have formed on the surface of the solution. Gently rinse the crystal with water to remove any excess borax.
Step 6: Enjoy and utilize your crystal
Now that your crystal is ready, you can use it for various purposes. Place it in your home or workspace as a decorative item or use it during meditation or healing practices. Crystals are believed to have different properties, so do some research to understand the specific benefits of the crystal you have created.
Creating your own crystal can be a fun and creative process. It allows you to engage with the natural world and explore the wonders of crystal formation. Give it a try and enjoy the beauty of your handmade crystal!
Remember to handle borax with care and keep it out of reach of children. Always read and follow the instructions and safety guidelines provided by the manufacturer.
