What do you need?
- Two monitors with compatible connectors (HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, etc.)
- A PC or laptop with at least two video outputs (dedicated GPU or integrated graphics)
- Appropriate cables to connect the monitors to your PC
Step 1: Check your video outputs
The first step is to identify the available video outputs on your computer. Most modern PCs have multiple video output options, such as HDMI, DisplayPort, and VGA. Check the ports on your device and determine which connectors are available.
Step 2: Choose the right cables
Once you know which video outputs your PC supports, you’ll need to choose the appropriate cables to connect your monitors. For example, if your PC has HDMI and DisplayPort outputs, ensure you have HDMI and DisplayPort cables available.
Step 3: Connect the monitors
Now it’s time to physically connect your monitors to your PC. Follow these steps:
- Turn off your PC and the monitors.
- Plug one end of the first cable into the video output port on your PC.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the corresponding input port on the first monitor.
- Repeat the previous two steps for the second monitor, using a different video output on your PC.
- Turn on your PC and both monitors.
Step 4: Configure display settings
Once you’ve connected the monitors, navigate to the display settings on your PC. Follow these instructions:
- Right-click on your desktop and select “Display settings.”
- In the Display settings window, you’ll see representations of your monitors labelled as “1” and “2.”
- Drag and arrange the monitors according to their physical placement on your desk.
- Click on each monitor and adjust the resolution, orientation, and other settings as desired.
- Choose whether you want to extend your desktop across both monitors or duplicate the display.
- Click “Apply” to save your settings.
