What supplies do you need?
- A broom or vacuum cleaner
- A mop
- A pH-neutral floor cleaner
- A bucket
- A microfiber mop head or a soft cloth
- A clean, dry towel
Step 1: Prepare the floor
Before you start cleaning, remove any loose dirt or debris from the floor surface. Sweep the floor thoroughly using a broom or vacuum cleaner on a low setting to avoid scratching the waxed surface.
Step 2: Dilute the floor cleaner
Fill the bucket with warm water and add the recommended amount of pH-neutral floor cleaner according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Avoid using acidic or alkaline cleaners as they can damage the wax coat.
Step 3: Mop the floor
Submerge the mop head or cloth into the soapy water, wring it out well, and start mopping the floor using gentle circular motions. Remember to start from the far corner and work your way towards the exit to avoid stepping on the wet floor.
Step 4: Rinse the mop
After mopping a small section, rinse the mop head or cloth in clean water to remove any dirt or residue. Wring it out thoroughly to ensure it’s damp but not excessively wet.
Step 5: Rinse the floor
Using the damp mop or cloth, go over the mopped section without applying additional cleaner. This step helps to remove any remaining soap residue from the waxed floor.
Step 6: Dry the floor
Once you’ve completed mopping the entire floor, use a clean, dry towel to carefully dry the surface. Ensure the floor is completely dry before allowing foot traffic to avoid slipping.
Step 7: Maintain the waxed floor
To extend the life of your waxed floor, implement a regular maintenance routine. Sweep or vacuum it regularly to remove dirt and grit that can scratch the wax. Additionally, consider periodic wax touch-ups to preserve its glossy appearance.
Following these simple steps will keep your waxed floors looking stunning and protect them from unnecessary wear and tear. Remember, regular cleaning helps maintain the integrity of the wax coating, ensuring your floors remain beautiful for years to come.
