Step 1: Install Movie Maker
First and foremost, you need to have Movie Maker installed on your computer. If you don’t have it already, you can easily download it from the Microsoft website or any trusted software download platform.
Step 2: Import your video
Launch Movie Maker and click on the “Add videos and photos” button located on the Home tab. Browse your computer for the video file you want to edit and select it. The selected video will be imported into the Movie Maker workspace.
Step 3: Split the video clip
Once your video is imported, you’ll need to identify the specific portion of the video where you want to change the background. To do this, play the video and pause it at the desired frame.
Next, click on the “Edit” tab and locate the “Split” button. Click on it to split the video clip into two segments at the selected frame. The split will create two separate clips – the portion before the selected frame, and the portion after it.
Step 4: Apply a green screen effect
The next step involves applying a green screen effect to the portion of the video you want to change the background for. Green screen or chroma key effect allows you to replace a certain color (typically green) in the video with a different background.
Select the clip on which you want to apply the effect, and navigate to the “Visual effects” tab. Click on the “Green Screen” effect and it will be applied to the selected clip.
Step 5: Choose a new background
After applying the green screen effect, Movie Maker will automatically replace the green areas in the video with transparency. This will allow you to add a new background to the video.
To choose a new background, click on the “Add videos and photos” button. This time, select the image or video file that you want to use as the new background.
Step 6: Adjust the background
Once the new background is added, make sure it is positioned correctly in relation to the subject in the video. You can do this by selecting the new background clip and using the resizing and repositioning tools provided by Movie Maker.
Step 7: Preview and save your edited video
Before finalizing your video, it’s essential to preview the changes you’ve made. Play the video from the beginning to see how the new background looks with the edited portion.
If you’re satisfied with the result, it’s time to save your video. Click on the “Home” tab and locate the “Save movie” button. Choose your preferred video quality and format, and provide a name for the file. Movie Maker will then save the video to your computer.
Congratulations! You have successfully changed the background of a video using Movie Maker. This simple yet powerful feature allows you to enhance the visual appeal of your videos and make them more engaging. Experiment with different backgrounds and let your creativity shine through. Happy editing!
