Step 1: Open the Alexa App
To get started, open the Alexa app on your smartphone or tablet. Make sure you are logged in with the same Amazon account that is connected to your Alexa-enabled devices.
Step 2: Navigate to the Drop-In Settings
In the Alexa app, tap on the menu icon located at the top left corner of the screen. From the menu, select “Settings” and then choose the device you want to enable Drop-In for.
Step 3: Enable Drop-In
Once you have selected the device, scroll down until you find the “Drop-In” option. Tap on it to access the Drop-In settings.
Step 4: Customize Drop-In Permissions
In the Drop-In settings, you can choose who can Drop-In on your device. You have three options:
- Off: No one can Drop-In on your device.
- My Household: Only devices within your Amazon Household can Drop-In on your device.
- Selected Contacts: You can individually select specific contacts who can Drop-In on your device.
Choose the option that best suits your needs and tap on it to save your preference.
Step 5: Repeat for Other Devices
If you want to enable Drop-In on other Alexa-enabled devices in your home, simply repeat steps 2 to 4 for each device.
Step 6: Drop-In from Any Alexa Device
Now that you have activated Drop-In on your Alexa devices, you can initiate a Drop-In by simply saying the designated voice command. For example, you can say “Alexa, drop in on the kitchen” to connect to the kitchen device, or “Alexa, drop in on Mom’s device” to connect to your Mom’s device.
Step 7: End the Drop-In
To end a Drop-In session, you can either say “Alexa, hang up” or simply tap the end call button on the Alexa app.
With Drop-In activated, you can now effortlessly communicate with other Alexa devices in your home. Whether it’s to check on a family member or have a hands-free conversation, this feature enhances the smart home experience offered by Amazon Alexa.
