Spider-Man has long been a beloved superhero, and Peter Parker has been the face behind the iconic mask for decades. However, in recent years, a new Spider-Man has swung onto the scene – Miles Morales. Since his debut in 2011, Morales has gained a loyal following, but just how long has he been wearing the red and blue suit?
Miles Morales first appeared in the comic book series “Ultimate Fallout” issue #4 in August 2011. Created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, Morales was introduced as a replacement for the slain Peter Parker in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe. This alternate universe allowed the creative team to explore new and diverse characters while still maintaining the core essence of Spider-Man.
In his debut, Miles Morales was depicted as a half-black, half-Puerto Rican teenage boy living in Brooklyn, New York. He has also become a key member of the Champions, a team of young superheroes. Morales’ popularity skyrocketed even further when he appeared in the critically acclaimed animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” in 2018.
In terms of the character’s chronology, Miles Morales has been Spider-Man for around ten years. The original Peter Parker from the mainstream Marvel Universe continues to be Spider-Man in his own ongoing series, but Miles has proven that there is room for multiple Spider-Men in the Marvel universe.
