Ingredients
- 10 pounds of white grapes
- 6 cups of white granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons of wine yeast
- 1 packet of wine stabilizer
- 3 gallons of water
Step 1: Prepare the Grapes
Begin by thoroughly washing the grapes under cold water. Next, remove the stems from each grape and crush them. This can be done using a grape crusher or by placing the grapes in a clean plastic bag and mashing them with your hands until they are well broken down.
Step 2: Extract the Juice
Transfer the crushed grapes into a clean and sanitized wine fermenter. Pour 1 gallon of water into the fermenter and mix well with the crushed grapes. Using a sanitized potato masher or your hands, gently stir the mixture to release the juice from the grapes.
Step 3: Add the Sugar
Slowly add the white granulated sugar into the fermenter while stirring continuously to ensure it dissolves completely. Continue stirring until the sugar is fully incorporated into the grape juice.
Step 4: Fermentation Process
Sprinkle the wine yeast over the grape juice mixture and let it sit undisturbed for about 24 hours. During this time, the yeast will activate and begin converting the sugar into alcohol. After 24 hours, cover the fermenter with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and secure it tightly with a rubber band.
Step 5: Stabilize the Wine
After about a week, you will notice that the fermentation process has slowed down. This is when you can add the wine stabilizer to prevent any further fermentation. Follow the instructions on the packet and mix it well into the wine with a sanitized stirring spoon.
Step 6: Aging Process
Cover the fermenter again and let the wine sit for at least 2 weeks to allow it to age. During this time, the flavors will develop, and the wine will become smoother and more refined. You can taste the wine occasionally to check its progress.
Step 7: Bottling
Once the wine has reached your desired taste, it’s time to bottle it. Sterilize your wine bottles and siphon the wine from the fermenter carefully, making sure to leave any sediment behind. Seal the bottles with corks or screw caps and store them in a cool, dark place for a few more weeks before enjoying your sweet white wine.
Congratulations! You have successfully made your own delicious sweet white wine at home. With just a few simple steps, you can enjoy the satisfaction of creating your own wine and savor the sweet flavors of your labor. So, gather your ingredients and embark on your winemaking journey. Cheers!
