As a child, visiting my grandmother in San Expedito was always a highlight of my year. Her home was a cozy little house with a small garden filled with blooming flowers and fruit trees. There was always a pot of warm mate on the stove, homemade pastries on the table, and a welcoming smile on my grandmother’s face. She would tell me stories of her adventures as a young woman, of her family’s history in the town, and of the traditions and customs of the community.
But it wasn’t just her hospitality and storytelling that made her special. My grandmother, who is now in her mid-eighties, is a respected member of the community and has been involved in many local projects over the years. She has volunteered at the local school, helped organize community festivals and events, and has even been involved in political campaigns.
Despite being retired, my grandmother is still active in the community. She attends church every weekend, where she sings in the choir and helps with the Sunday school activities. She is also involved in a local women’s group, where she shares her knowledge of traditional crafts and cooking.
My grandmother’s involvement in the community has had a profound impact on me and my family. She has instilled in us a sense of responsibility to give back to our community and to make a positive impact in the lives of those around us. She has shown us that even the smallest of actions can make a difference, and that there is always something we can do to help those in need.
But for my grandmother, it’s not just about helping others. She genuinely loves the town of San Expedito and its people. She is proud of its history, its culture, and its unique personality. And she is always eager to share it with anyone who will listen.
As I grew older, my visits to San Expedito became less frequent due to school and work obligations. But whenever I do have the opportunity to visit, my grandmother’s house is still my first stop. And even though she is now in her eighties, she hasn’t changed a bit. She still greets me with a warm hug and a cup of mate, and tells me stories of the town and its people.
As I sit in my grandmother’s garden, sipping on mate and listening to her talk, I realize how lucky I am to have her in my life. She has taught me so much, and has given me a love for a town and a community that I otherwise might not have ever experienced. And for that, I am forever grateful.
