What is the ISEE?
The ISEE is a test designed to evaluate a student’s aptitude for independent school education. It assesses their verbal and quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, and math skills. Along with other admission criteria such as interviews and recommendations, the ISEE helps independent schools determine whether a student is a good fit for their academic program.
Which grade levels take the ISEE?
The ISEE can be taken by students applying to grades 2 through 12. The content of the test and the scoring system differ based on the grade level of the student. There are four main levels of the ISEE: Primary Level (grades 2-4), Lower Level (grades 5-6), Middle Level (grades 7-8), and Upper Level (grades 9-12). Each level has its own unique test structure and difficulty level.

The test consists of five sections: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics Achievement, and a 30-minute unscored Essay. The scoring for this level ranges from 440 to 710 for each section.
