What You’ll Need
- Snap buttons (two halves – male and female)
- Garment or material
- Pliers
- Marker or chalk (optional)
- Scissors
- Ruler or measuring tape (optional)
Step 1: Prepare Your Garment
Start by laying out your garment and deciding where you want the snap buttons to be placed. You can use a marker or chalk to mark the spots, ensuring they are symmetrical on both sides if necessary.
Step 2: Insert the Female Part
Take the female snap button part and push the prongs through the fabric from the wrong side. Place the disc component over the prongs on the right side of the fabric.
Step 3: Secure the Female Part
To secure the female snap button part, hold the prongs in place with one hand while using your other hand to bend the prongs outwards using pliers. This ensures a tight and secure fit.
Step 4: Position the Male Part
Now it’s time to position the male snap button part. Carefully align it with the female part by attaching it to the front side of the fabric where you marked the spot.
Step 5: Insert the Male Part
Insert the male snap button prongs through the fabric from the right side, just like you did with the female part.
Step 6: Secure the Male Part
Similar to Step 3, use your pliers to bend the prongs of the male snap button part outwards. Ensure a tight and secure fit, allowing the snap button to close easily when pressure is applied.
Step 7: Test and Adjust
After completing the snap button application, test the closure to ensure it functions properly. If necessary, make any adjustments to the positioning or tightness to achieve the desired result.
That’s it! By following these easy steps, you can now confidently apply snap buttons to your garments with efficiency and precision. Remember to practice on scrap fabric before working on your final project to perfect your technique. Happy buttoning!
