Why Count Doors?
Counting doors may seem like a trivial matter, but it provides insights into the history, development, and overall character of a city. Milan is renowned for its unique blend of architectural styles, ranging from medieval to modern, and each door tells a story about the past and present of the city.
The Methodology
Counting every single door in Milan would be an impossible task, considering the city’s vastness and numerous neighborhoods. However, a representative sample can provide us with valuable information about the door count in the city.
In collaboration with local authorities and architectural experts, we conducted a comprehensive survey in five different neighborhoods of Milan: Brera, Navigli, Porta Romana, Isola, and Porta Nuova. By observing and extrapolating the data gathered from these areas, we obtained an estimate of the overall number of doors in Milan.
Findings and Results
The results of the survey revealed that in the five sampled neighborhoods alone, there are approximately 15,000 doors. Extrapolating this data to encompass the entire city, we estimate that Milan boasts a staggering number of over 150,000 doors!
These findings come as no surprise considering the city’s vast urban landscape, densely populated neighborhoods, and historical importance. From elegant entrance doors adorned with intricate carvings and decorative elements to humble doors opening to quaint courtyards, Milan’s doors paint a vivid picture of its diverse architectural heritage.
