David Cross (born 8 November 1950) is a former English footballer who scored more than 200 goals during his career. Cross began his career in 1968 with his hometown club, Bradford City, and stayed there until 1975. He then moved on to Manchester City for a transfer fee of £200,000, which was a record for the club at the time.

Cross was a towering center forward who possessed exceptional aerial ability. He was a dominant figure in the penalty box and scored most of his goals with his head. He was also known for his physicality, which made him a tough opponent for opposing defenders. While he was not the most technically gifted player, his strength and determination made him a valuable asset to any team.

Cross made an immediate impact at Manchester City, scoring 13 goals in his first season with the club. He helped his team win the League Cup in 1976 and was the club’s top scorer in the following season, with 23 goals in all competitions. He also helped Manchester City reach the 1977 FA Cup final, although they ultimately lost to arch-rivals, Manchester United.

Cross continued to be a prolific scorer for Manchester City for several seasons, scoring over 20 goals in each of the next three seasons. However, his form dipped in the 1980-81 season, and he fell out of favor with then-manager John Bond. After making just one appearance in the league that season, Cross was sold to West Bromwich Albion for a reported fee of £150,000.

Cross enjoyed a successful spell at West Bromwich Albion, scoring 51 goals in 125 appearances. He helped the team earn promotion to the First Division in 1983 and was the club’s top scorer in the following season with 13 goals. He also won the PFA Player of the Month award for April 1983. Despite his success at West Bromwich Albion, Cross was sold to Coventry City in 1984, where he played for two seasons before moving to Charlton Athletic, where he ended his career in 1987.

After retiring from football, Cross went on to become a pundit and commentator on several media outlets. He has also worked as a scout for various clubs, including Manchester City and Fulham. In 2014, he was inducted into the Manchester City Hall of Fame, recognizing his contributions to the club during his time there.

David Cross was not only a prolific goal scorer but also a hardworking player, who gave his all for every team he played for. He was an integral part of Manchester City’s success in the 1970s and helped West Bromwich Albion earn promotion to the First Division.
