Gather Your Supplies
To get started, gather the following supplies:
- Colorful construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Straight pin
- Decorative stickers (optional)
Create the Sail
1. Take a piece of construction paper and measure a 5×7-inch rectangle using a ruler.
2. Cut out the rectangle using scissors.
3. Fold the rectangle in half, making it a 2.5×7-inch triangle.
4. Open up the triangle and cut along the folded line until you reach approximately 1 inch from the top of the triangle.
5. Fold the top portion of the triangle down to create the sail shape. Secure it with glue to hold the shape.
6. Add decorative stickers or drawings to personalize your sail, if desired.
Construct the Boat
1. Take another sheet of construction paper and measure a 4×6-inch rectangle using a ruler.
2. Cut out the rectangle using scissors.
3. Orient the rectangle vertically and fold it in half lengthwise. This will create a crease down the center.
4. Open up the folded rectangle and fold the two shorter edges towards the center crease.
5. Apply glue to the folded edges and press them together, creating a triangular shape at the bottom and a rectangular shape at the top.
Finish Your Sailboat
1. Attach the sail to the boat by applying glue to the bottom of the sail and sticking it onto the rectangular portion of the boat.
2. Use a straight pin to poke a small hole in the center of the boat, near the top edge.
3. Thread a piece of string or fishing line through the hole and tie a knot on the inside to secure it.
4. Your paper sailboat is now complete and ready to set sail!
