Charlie Crist

Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, Charlie Crist has had a long and illustrious career in politics. From serving in the Florida Senate and as Attorney General of Florida to becoming the 44th Governor of Florida, Crist has continued to make his mark in the political arena.

Crist’s political journey began in the early 1980s when he became a staff member for U.S. Senator Paula Hawkins. He later worked in the Reagan White House before returning to Florida to begin his political career. He was subsequently elected to the Florida Senate in 1992, where he served for six years before being elected as Florida’s Attorney General in 2002.

During his tenure as Attorney General, Crist advocated for the Florida Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights, established the environmental crimes division, and supported the use of DNA evidence in criminal cases. His most notable accomplishment was the restoration of voting rights to over 150,000 ex-felons in Florida in 2007.

After serving as Governor for four years, Crist announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2010. However, he withdrew from the Republican primary due to the staunch opposition he faced from Tea Party voters. He then declared himself as an independent candidate and was defeated by Marco Rubio in the general election.

In 2012, after switching his party affiliation to Democrat, Crist ran for Governor again and won the Democratic nomination. Although he lost the general election, he continued to remain active in politics, endorsing and campaigning for Democratic candidates in local and national elections.

In 2016, Crist was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Florida’s 13th congressional district. During his tenure in Congress, he has focused on issues such as healthcare reform, environmental protection, and consumer protection. He was also one of the first members of Congress to support the impeachment of former President Donald Trump.
