Brian Ortega is an American professional mixed martial artist who competes in the featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). With a professional record of 15 wins and one loss, Ortega has established himself as one of the top contenders in the division.

Ortega was born on February 21, 1991, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in a tough neighborhood and turned to martial arts as a way to stay out of trouble. Ortega began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) when he was 13 years old and quickly became proficient in the art, earning his black belt at the age of 24.

Ortega made his professional MMA debut in 2010 and quickly amassed a record of 8 wins and 0 losses before signing with the UFC in 2014. He made his debut for the promotion at UFC Fight Night 52, winning a third-round submission victory over Mike De La Torre.

Ortega continued his winning ways in the UFC, finishing opponents such as Diego Brandao and Renato Moicano. However, his biggest test came in 2018 when he faced Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight championship at UFC 231. Despite being outmatched on the feet, Ortega showed his heart and toughness by absorbing punishment for four rounds before the doctor stopped the fight due to a broken nose and swollen eye.

Despite the loss, Ortega’s stock only continued to rise as fans and analysts praised his grit and determination. Ortega took some time off to recover from his injuries before returning to the octagon to face Chan Sung Jung in October 2019. In the fight, Ortega showcased his striking skills, winning a unanimous decision victory over Jung and solidifying his status as one of the top contenders in the division.

Ortega’s next fight was supposed to be a highly anticipated rematch against Holloway, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the event. He eventually faced “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung in October 2020 after more than a year away from the octagon. In the fight, Ortega displayed a new striking skillset, winning a unanimous decision victory and earning himself a title shot against Alexander Volkanovski.

Ortega faced Volkanovski for the featherweight title in March 2021 at UFC 260. Though he lost the fight via unanimous decision, Ortega once again demonstrated his fighting spirit and durability by taking the champion to the distance. He returned to the octagon in October 2021, defeating former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar via first-round knockout.

Ortega’s next fight is slated to be a highly anticipated rematch against Max Holloway in early 2022. The two fighters first met in 2018, with Holloway earning a dominant win. However, many believe that Ortega has improved significantly since their first fight and that he has a good chance of coming out on top this time around.

In addition to his skills inside the octagon, Ortega is also known for his charitable work. He has raised money for causes such as childhood cancer and the LA Regional Food Bank and was named the UFC’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2018.

Brian Ortega is a remarkable fighter who has captured the hearts of MMA fans worldwide. With his skill, heart, and generosity, he is truly one of the sport’s great ambassadors. Whether he wins or loses his next fight, one thing is for sure: Brian Ortega will always give it his all.
