In today’s era where everything can be done online, organizing a dinner with friends at home is no exception. Yes, you read it right. An online home dinner is happening today with my friends, and I am ecstatic about it.

The idea of having a virtual home dinner is not something new, but it is still relatively uncommon amongst most people. However, given the current circumstances of the pandemic, a virtual dinner with friends is a perfect idea to socialize and catch up with each other’s lives. The best part is that we can prepare our meals and dine together from the comfort of our own homes.

The first step in organizing a virtual home dinner is to pick the platform. We decided to use Zoom, which is one of the most used online video conferencing platforms. It is free to use, and we could have up to 100 participants. However, we are only eight, so that was more than enough for us.

Although we are in different parts of the country, we decided on a specific time to conduct the virtual dinner. Everyone is responsible for preparing their own meal. We chose a time that is convenient for everyone, and we suggest that anyone planning a virtual dinner party should do the same.

With the virtual dinner fast approaching, I have been preparing my meal for the last couple of hours. It is a bit unique because we have decided to go with different themes for our dishes. We came up with three themes to choose from- Mexican, Italian, or Asian. I chose to go with the Asian theme and decided to prepare some chicken stir-fry and rice. I am so excited to see what everyone else has prepared.

After preparing our meals, we set-up our laptops with the Zoom platform, a plate, fork, and knife. We all logged in at the agreed time, and we started our virtual home dinner with friends.

It was an extraordinary experience. I could see my friends and the food they prepared from their laptops. We spent the initial fifteen minutes sharing what we cooked. Everybody’s meals looked delicious, and we spent a good amount of time appreciating each dish.

Once everyone finished their sharing, we started to dine together. It felt different, but it was still fun. I could see whenever a friend would take a bite of his food and could hear their reactions. It was like we were all in the same room but still miles away.

During dinner, we laughed, shared stories, and talked about our upcoming plans. It was like any other dinner party but just online. It felt like a cozy and casual get-together, but in fact, it was just us and our laptops. We even decided to take a group photo to remember this unique experience.

In conclusion, a virtual home dinner is not impossible, and it is a great way to stay connected to friends and family members. We live in a world where we can connect with anyone from anywhere, anytime. I am grateful for this wonderful experience, and I encourage anyone to try it out. It may seem weird at first, but it’s worth it. A virtual dinner party is an excellent alternative to traditional gatherings, especially during this pandemic where it’s not always safe to meet in person.
